  2. BREATHABILITY
RET <12: very breathable. To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we measure its evaporative resistance, or RET, (test based on the ISO 11092 standard). It is its ability to allow the water vapour produced by the body during exercise to escape.
  3. FEATURES
    - Three-way adjustable hood. - Adjustable jacket hem. - Adjustable fleece collar. - Injected plastic central zip - Reinforced jacket hem
  4. REFLECTIVE
    - 2 shoulder patches - 2 hood patches intensifying light sources.
  5. HOW TO REACTIVE THE JACKET'S WATER REPELLENCY step 1: before washing
Close all zips and flaps and remove any parts of the garment that cannot be washed. Also remember to loosen the straps and elastic parts and empty the pockets. Then turn the garment inside out to wash it.
  6. HOW TO REACTIVE THE JACKET'S WATER REPELLENCY step 2: washing
You can wash your jacket on a synthetic cycle at 30° or 40°C with your usual detergent. Do not use fabric conditioner, which could damage the existing performance of the garment, or bleach. Also take care not to bend your jacket too much when you place it in the washing machine and do not overload your machine. Very important: select a thorough rinse or double rinse to completely remove all detergent residue.
  7. HOW TO REACTIVE THE JACKET'S WATER REPELLENCY step 3: drying
Drying is a crucial phase in reactivating the water repellent treatment. We recommend that you lay your jacket flat on a clothes rack and leave it out to dry in the open. Caution: never dry your jacket directly on a radiator. Then place it in the tumble dryer on a short synthetics cycle, i.e. 10 to 15 minutes, before turning it back the right way round.
  8. HOW TO REACTIVE THE JACKET'S WATER REPELLENCY
If, despite this procedure of washing and thorough rinsing followed by gentle drying in a tumble dryer, the drops of water no longer run off the surface of your jacket, we recommend that you "re-waterproof" it using a waterproofing spray sold in our stores.
  9. Score to compare the environmental impact of products
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over its entire life cycle and with different indicators. An overall ABCDE rating is performed to help you easily identify the products with the best environmental performance by comparing the same type of products with each other (t-shirts, trousers, backpacks, ...). Decathlon is a committed stakeholder in this environmental labelling approach. To get more information: http://sustainability.decathlon.com/

  11. Visibility:
The reflective 3M patches on the sleeves, collar, hood and the Tribord logo intensify low light sources.
  12. What is breathability and the RET index?
The breathability of your Offshoroa jacket corresponds to its ability to let perspiration generated by the body escape. It is measured by its Resistance to Evaporative Transfer (ISO 11092 standard). The RET is a resistance index; the lower the value, the greater the breathability of the fabric. RET between 6 and 9: extremely breathable, between 10 - 13: very breathable, between 14 and 17: breathable, between 18 and 20: little breathability, above 20: not breathable.
  13. Water repellent component:
The water repellency of your Offshoroa jacket is obtained by applying a treatment to its outer surface. This treatment causes water to slide over the surface without soaking in. This prevents the component from soaking up water and keeps it lightweight, breathable, and warm. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime. Our ranges offer products for this purpose or solutions can be found on the care instructions on how to reactivate your jacket's water repellent treatment.
  14. How important is windproofing?
Protection from the wind is very important, as wind can chill the body significantly whether you are active or at rest. According to the "wind chill" model, which measures how the air temperature feels when factoring in the wind and cold: at a temperature of 5°C combined with winds of 30 km/h, the temperature felt will be 0°C. If the air temperature is 0°C and wind speed is 40 km/h, the temperature felt will be -7°C. Your Offshoroa jacket helps to counter the windchill effect.
  15. What is a waterproof and breathable HYDROPHILIC membrane?
The membrane works in stages to wick away perspiration. Firstly, the fabric absorbs water vapour until it is saturated. Then, due to the difference in pressure between inside and outside the jacket, the fabric disperses the water vapour outwards. The main advantage of the hydrophilic membrane is that it does not contain pores; consequently, there is no need to constantly rinse the fabric to wash off any salt water crystals. Breathability therefore remains constant over time.

Used for More than 1 year
Bought one of these autumn 2016. Have worn it sailing through Autumn league, Brass Monkey winter sailing in Howth 2016 and 2017. Also worn to winter rugby matches.
Excellent quality, hard wearing, practical sailing jacket.
Crew and friends have bought these too on my recommendation. Just as good as higher priced big name jackets. Can't fault it.
    Response of the brand
    Hi Paul,

Glad to know you and your crew like the 500 range of jackets. This is one of our most popular jackets!

    Thanks,

Up until now I have always bought "household name" sailing clothing as other brands often fall short in some aspects.
I have to say though that this jacket is every bit as good and at least half the price.
Worn on a recent sailing weekend when the conditions where classic spring like.. heavy showers, cold strong winds, bright sunshine light winds etc.
    The jacket performed superbly.
Looks to be made of very durable material, not light and flimsy.
  • Great value good quality protection

Used for 3 to 6 months
Have used this jacket regularly since receiving it six months ago, in both favourable and unfavourable conditions in the Dublin Bay area and on ISORA races across the Irish Sea to Wales. Great at keeping you dry through spray and heavier weather conditions. Size is generous which allows for extra layers underneath. If you don't want this, I would suggest ordering a size smaller that you would usually order.
    Price, Water Resistance.
